Mannheim, Germany (27/8 - 2/10/2008)



WASSERTURM (Water Tower)

Mannheim is the second largest city in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg (south of Germany) after Stuttgart. Terletak di antara pertemuan sungai Rhine and Neckar. Water Tower atau dlm bahasa Jerman 'Wassertum' merupakan landmark Mannheim. This water tower is situated at Friedrichsplatz Square (in the heart of the city) and it is surrounded with fountains. The square is considered one of the Europe's finest Art Nouveau architectural ensembles.



CARL BENZ (1844 - 1929)

Mannheim is also known as the place where the first car of Carl Benz (the inventor of Mercedez Benz) was invented. He had produced a lightweight three-wheeled vehicle powered by a single cylinder petrol/gasoline-fueled engine (as shown in the pictures above). The vehicle subsequently came to be widely regarded as the original automobile. On 1/8/1888, the world’s first driving licence is issued for Carl Benz.

Mannheim also the birth place of famous world woman tennis player Steffi Graff (1969)



YAVUZ-SULTAN-SELIM MOSQUE

This is one of the mosque in Mannheim. it is considered the largest mosque in Germany to date. It was officially opened on March 4th 1995. It has a capacity of about 2,500. The building cost about 10 million DM, which was donated by Mannheim Moslems.
